Vilamoura

Vilamoura is purpose-built perfection — or the closest thing to it on the Algarve coast. Developed from scratch in the 1970s as a private resort town, it has matured into the region's most prestigious address: wide, tree-lined boulevards, five championship golf courses within 10 minutes, a 1,000-berth superyacht marina lined with international restaurants, and an address that holds its value in every market cycle.

The golf is the defining feature. Vilamoura's five courses — Victoria, Old Course, Laguna, Millennium and Pinhal — each have different characters, from the open parkland of the Victoria (home of the Portuguese Open) to the pine-forest intimacy of the Pinhal. Membership packages and reciprocal arrangements mean serious golfers can play a different course every day for months. The associated golf academies, clubhouses and teaching professionals make Vilamoura Europe's most complete golf destination.

Property prices start at €250,000 for a one-bedroom apartment near the marina and rise steeply: penthouses on the marina waterfront exceed €1.5M, large golf-front villas with private pools regularly achieve €2M–€2.5M. The market is deeply international — buyers from the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, Ireland and the Middle East all compete for the same stock. Rental yields are more moderate than Albufeira (4–6% net) but capital values are more stable.

Year-round services are excellent: the Casino de Vilamoura, a private hospital, multiple international schools within 20km, Faro Airport 25 minutes by car, and the new high-speed rail link under development that will connect the Algarve to Lisbon in under two hours. Vilamoura is the Algarve's only true full-service resort that functions equally well as a permanent residence.
